WASP Technologies deliver Ireland's first Palm Bluetooth solution to Allegro Distribution
Sales Order Entry on Wireless Handheld Computers
WASP Technologies, and Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) today announced the recently completed development of a wireless handheld sales order entry application for Allegro Distribution, part of the Fyffes Plc organisation.
This development means that Allegro's sales personnel can now take customer orders on Palm™ m500 handheld computers equipped with SD (Secure Digital) Bluetooth cards and have these orders wirelessly transmitted into their AS600 legacy systems. This electronic transmission of sales orders leads to a reduction in errors in the order -taking process, reduces paperwork and produces a faster turnaround on product distribution. The sales personnel now carry their customer and product list on a Palm™ handheld. This data is updated with the latest information each time an order is transmitted back to their head office. At the touch of a button, Allegro personnel can view a detailed order history relating to a customer and key information such as the previous order quantities for a particular item for the customer they are visiting. The application also has a messaging module allowing sales personnel to keep in contact with Allegro's head office.
"This is a significant development in the adoption of Bluetooth in the corporate space", says Richard Baird, Sales Director of WASP Technologies. "To date, our mobile solutions have required the use of infra-red or cable for connectivity from mobile workers to their head office. Bluetooth offers us a convenient wireless environment in which Palm handhelds can connect to corporate LANs. Allegro sales personnel only have to be within 10 metres of their mobile phones to be able to transmit their sales orders back to their network".
"We choose WASP Technologies to develop our application due to their dedicated focus on handheld computing and wireless integration, their previous experience on similar projects and the strong partnerships they have in place to support our implementation" says Pat O'Doherty, Information Services Manager of Allegro Distribution. "The benefits already being reaped by the adoption of this new sales order entry handheld application are enormous. The main impetus behind the project was increasing business efficiency and we can already see the positive impact in this area. We can now enjoy reduced lead times, reduced paper work, increased productivity and reduced costs."
"We share a common vision with WASP and Allegro, that providing people with mobile and wireless access to corporate information will enable them to be more productive and effective," said Mike Weatherley, vice president of Palm EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa)."Together, we are fulfilling the promise of access to business critical data whilst on the move and we believe Bluetooth developments such as this will open a new era in interoperability among devices and collaboration among people."
